One sunny afternoon when Todd the Amputeddy was playing in the park he spotted somebody he’d never  seen before.  It was a little girl bear, a little younger than he was, who had only one arm!

She was swinging on the swings.  He ran over to her as fast as he could.  “Hi, I’m Todd, “ he said excitedly.  “We’re alike!  See, I have my left leg amputated.”

“An accident?” she asked, confused. “I didn’t have an accident.”

“Well how did you lose your arm?” asked Todd.

Nubby Bear went down the slide. “I was born this way,” Nubby Bear replied at the bottom. “Weren’t you?”

Todd slid down after her. “No, I had a bad accident and the doctor had to take my leg away.”

Nubby Bear and Todd played all afternoon and they talked all about life without a leg or an arm.  They both could do all the same things, but sometimes they just did it in a different way.

“We are all who we are, and we are all different!” said Nubby Bear.

Todd agreed.
