Today was the day Todd the Amputeddy was going back to school.  After his accident he had spent a lot of time in the hospital and at home.  Now he was finally ready.  He was nervous as he waited for the bus. 

When the door opened, he swallowed hard, gathered his courage, and stepped on.

But when the time came for him to share, and he felt scared, he remembered that he had already had to do much harder things.  He stood right up and pulled his leg right off!  The class all gasped in wonder.  He told them about how they fit it just for him and that it had lots of different names like helper leg, prosthesis, and dolly leg.

His first day back to school was one of the best days he could remember.

His friends got used to his new leg, and he didn’t always feel like the king every day, but he realized that things weren’t really so different before his accident.  He knew now that he could be a regular bear just like everyone else.
